The San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF) is committed to improving program quality and driving better outcomes for program participants. We understand that the field grows stronger when we invest in the professional development of staff who administer and deliver programs. We have a variety of capacity building and leadership opportunities. Description of Fund Development Opportunities

 

Leadership Circle for Emerging Development Professionals

Monthly peer group meetings to share challenges and strategies for personal and organizational success.

Proposal Writing Bootcamp

This three-day project-based immersion course focuses on the essential knowledge and skills fundraisers need to develop effective proposals.

Program Manager Cohort

Supervision for Effective Employee Development (SEED

Trauma Infused Youth Development

Youth on Fire

This cohort is designed to bring together program managers who oversee several staff across multiple sites to increase support, strengthen abilities in relationship building, problem solving, coaching and supervising staff.

  • Target Audience: Program Mangers

  • Years of Experience: 1-3 years

This 3-part series explores strategies for organizational leaders to provide the right combination of guidance and support to develop the natural talents of their team, serve as inspiration when the going gets tough, and set high expectations for those around them to achieve transformational results for youth.

This 9-month cohort will infuse a trauma lens within Youth Development theory and practice as well as center self- and organizational-care for staff who work with young people impacted by trauma. Rooted in brain development, sociocultural dynamics, and power and privilege, the cohort is designed to enable attendees to increase their understanding of trauma, utilize this understanding in daily Youth Development practices, and maintain hope while working with young people with trauma histories. Individualized coaching is available for cohort participants to customize and apply information to their organization.

This cohort is designed to support direct service providers to institute stronger and more effective youth empowerment practices and design programs that hold substantive youth voice.

DCYF University Trauma Infused Youth Development Alumni Project

This cohort is open to previous participants who completed the TIYD Cohort with Dr. Hall to provide additional support, go deeper, and increase competence and confidence applying a trauma lens to Youth Development theory and practice. Topics will be created with the cohort and can include: challenges implementing TIYD practices, skill building for specific developmental areas, and institutional care practices. Cohort will meet 3x as a group. Each cohort participant will receive individualized coaching tailored to their organization. By Special Invitation Only

 
 

Description of Professional Development Retreat

Training-of-Trainers Retreat

Radical Healing Summit

Through this one day retreat staff with embark on an experiential learning cycle that enables them to learn skills to support their work at their sites. Participants will learn how to run Spark Deck workshops at their sites for their own staff.

The summit is a three-day retreat focused on transformative leadership, social justice youth development practices, and culturally based healing strategies. The Summit will help grantees redefine their leadership stance and build their capacity to design and implement healing and well-being strategies into their organizations.

Description of Organizational Capacity

Organizational Sustainability Initiative

This cohort combines skill development, coaching and peer learning to empower individuals and teams. Through tailored financial management workshops, participants will walk away not only with a better understanding of overall fiscal health and financial trends but also with a shared vocabulary and vision for their organizations.
