Learning Environment

D1. ENROLLMENT IN HIGH-QUALITY EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION SETTINGS

Definition: We track the percentage of City funded high quality early care and education centers and family child care homes in San Francisco using the California Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). A "high quality" rating is a considered a 4 or higher rating on the QRIS.

5-Yr Target: Increase the percent of early care settings that achieve a quality rating of four or higher on the five-point quality rating and improvement system (QRIS) to 90% of city funded centers and 75% of the city funded family care homes.

D2. KINDERGARTEN READINESS

Definition: We track the percent of SFUSD students who are ready for kindergarten. Students are considered “kindergarten ready” and able to fully participate in kindergarten learning, were rated as meeting or exceeding expectations on 80% or more of the items on the Kindergarten Readiness Inventory (KRI).

5-Yr Target: Increase K-readiness to 100% among students belonging to every racial and ethnic background.

D3. HIGH SCHOOL READINESS

Definition: High school readiness examines student performance on four measures in grade 8: GPA of 2.5 or better, attendance 96% or better, no D’s or F’s in ELA or Math in 8th grade, and never suspended in 8th grade.

5-Yr Target: All groups acheive the District overall percentage of readiness (60.7% in School Year 2018-19).

D4. REGULAR SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Definition: Regular attendance is defined as being present 90% of the year or more (for example, 162 days out of 180). The calculation only inlcudes students who were enrolled for a minimum of 30 school based days. Both excused and unexcused absences are included to calculate the rate. Subgroups of 20 or more students are considered significant.

5-Yr Target: Acheive the annual district overall rate of regular attendance for SFUSD elementary, middle, and high schools among students in all subgroups.

D5. PROFICIENCY IN READING, MATH, LANGUAGE ARTS, AND SCIENCE

Definition: Standardized English Language Arts and Math tests measure proficiency and are conducted for students in grades 3-8 and 11. The Fountas and Pinell Literacy Continuum for kindergarten through 2nd Grade provides reading proficiency data.

5-Yr Target: All students in each subgroup maintain the blue or green color rating in accordance with the California State Dashboard for English Language Arts and Math. For Reading proficiency, 85% of all students in each grade and subgroup meet the end of year benchmark, which was 67% in 2018-19. Science proficiency target TBD.
