Overview

The Literacy Supports Strategy is designed to provide programming to elementary school youth and English Learners in need of additional literacy support. Literacy Supports programs will assess youth, develop individual service plans, and deliver activities that help young people improve their reading levels, writing abilities and other literacy skills.

DCYF allocated $1,898,000 in annual funding to eight programs across eight agencies for the Literacy Supports Strategy.

Strategy Goals include:

  • To support kindergarten through 5th grade students who are not reading at grade level to make gains in reading, writing and other literacy skills through targeted intervention during the school year and/or summer.

  • To support English Learners who are not reading at grade level to make gains in reading, writing and other literacy skills through targeted intervention during the school year and/or summer.
