Michael Wald has been a Professor of Law at Stanford University since 1967. His teaching and research focuses on children and public policy. He was Director of the Stanford Center on Child, Youth, and their Families from 1984-87.
Professor Wald has held a number of non-academic positions related to child welfare. In San Francisco, he was Director of the San Francisco Human Services Agency in 1996-97, chair of the Youth Council of the SF Workforce Investment Board from 2009-2011, and co-chair of Mayor Newsom’s Transitional Age Youth Task Force in 2006-7. He also has held a number of positions at the federal and state level, including serving as Deputy General Counsel of the US Department of Health and Human Services from 1993-95, as a member of the US Advisory Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect, as chair of the California State Advisory Committee on Child Abuse, and as a member of the Carnegie Foundation Commission on Children 0-3.
