The Department of Children, Youth & Their Families is both a member and a supporter of the San Francisco Family Support Network, a unique partnership of the stakeholders in the Family Support field: families, community-based organizations, public departments, and private foundations. The San Francisco Family Support Network was founded in June 2004, building on the San Francisco Starting Points Initiative's Strategic Plan for Supporting Families.

Mission
The mission of the San Francisco Family Support Network is to support and enhance the Family Support system of care throughout San Francisco by:
- Providing a collective voice for Family Support
- Promoting the Family Support Principles and educating about best and promising practice
- Creating opportunities for enhanced peer support among all Family Support stakeholders
- Advocating for policies and programs that will help to meet the health, educational, safety, and environmental needs of all families
Activities
The SFFSN focuses on three main areas of work:
- Representation and Advocacy- Ensuring the needs of the families of San Francisco’s 114,000 children are represented and considered in the development of key initiatives and policies.
- Field Building- Promoting awareness of the Family Support Field and developing common language, standards, and evaluation of it.
- Technical Assistance and Training- Providing support to members to meet both the minimum and high quality indicators of Family Support Standards.
Principles
These Family Support Principles were developed by Family Support America.

Standards
The San Francisco Family Support Network has developed the Family Support Standards to promote best practices for the Family Support field. The SFFSN provides training and technical assistance to ensure their successful application.

Policy Platform
Recognizing that San Francisco’s high cost of living is one of the top issues affecting family flight, the SFFSN developed the SFFSN Family Economic Success Policy Platform. The platform, adopted by the Full Group in November 2007, will support family retention by promoting strategies for families’ economic stability, advancement and success.
