CREATING COMMUNITY

The Department of Children, Youth & Their Families is pleased to support several efforts that help fulfill our mission that children and families are a prominent and valued segment of San Francisco's social fabric.

Please click on the titles below for more information.

Anchor Initiative
The overriding purpose of the Anchor Initiative is to strengthen community-based, community-driven organizations that address multiple needs at the individual and neighborhood level.

Community Conveners
This exciting effort will employ trusted community organizations to:

  • Improve the coordination of services to meet community needs and challenges
  • Plan and promote community-wide events
  • Promote resource sharing and referrals among agencies
  • Enhance communication between CBOs and public agencies
  • Facilitate cross-organization problem solving

Family Events
DCYF supports numerous neighborhood, community, and civic events for San Francisco families with children.

Funding Strategies
Based on a Community Needs Assessment, with advice from its volunteer Citizen's Advisory Committee, DCYF makes strategic use of the voter-approved Children's Fund to support hundreds of community-based organizations that provide children & youth services throughout San Francisco.

SFkids.org
San Francisco's Official Family Resource Guide is produced by a partnership of DCYF and GoKid.org. Created by San Francisco parents, for San Francisco parents, the site features over 60 pages of information, thousands of resource listings, and the best family event calendar in San Francisco.
